In Indian Mythology Stories, The Ramayana and the Mahabharata are the two epics that happened in two different eras. The Ramayana occurred is Treta Yuga and the Mahabharata occurred in Dwapara Yuga. They are both stories of the avatars of Lord Vishnu who took birth to end evil and help truth prevail. While these two stories are very different, but there are a lot of similarities between them. Similarities between Ramayana and Mahabharata 


1)  The birth of Sita and Draupadi 

Mythology Stories says that the birth of Sita and Draupadi the heroines of Bodhi epics. That is Sita and Draupadi were not born out of their mother's womb, while Draupadi came out of the sacred fire along with her brother Dhrishtadyumna. Sita was a daughter of the earth. Several stories are revolving around the birth of Sita, the most popular one is this. It is said that Ravana had buried a pot full of sages blood and body parts under the earth, when that pot was found by King Janaka it had been replaced by a beautiful baby girl that is Sita.

2) The Birth of Rama and  the Pandavas

 According to Mythology Stories, The birth of Rama and the Pandavas just like Rama was born after Dasharatha got a boon from Lord Vishnu. The same holds true for the Pandavas Kunti knew a mantra, with the help of which she could call on any God. When Pandava was cursed by a sage and could not give birth to kids she called upon different gods to bless her with five boys.

3) The Swayamvara

 In Mythology Stories, both the marriages in these epics happened after a Swayamvara while Rama broke Shiva's bow to win the hand of Sita. Arjun pierces the eye of a fish to win Draupadi's hand. When the story of the win was told to Kunti, she without thinking asked him to divide his win between the five brothers. Everyone was shocked to hear that as Draupadi was not an object but finally it was decided that Draupadi would be a wife to all the five Pandavas and would be their wife for five years each.

4) Sita and Draupadi's Abduction

As per the Mythology Stories, everybody knows about Sita being abducted by Ravana in the Ramayana but one similarity between Ramayana and Mahabharata is that even Draupadi was abducted in Mahabharata. This happened during the exile which the Pandavas were subjected to by the Kauravas when she was alone Jayadratha came and abducted Draupadi. He was enamoured by her beauty and wanted to make her his own. However they met the Pandavas on the way and after a huge fight, Draupadi was rescued.

5) Cause of the War of Ramayana and the Mahabharata

 According to Mythology Stories, The cause of the war in both the Ramayana and the Mahabharata was the same. In those days a woman's respect was considered very important that is why when Sita was abducted, Rama went to Lanka to bring her back with respect. on the other hand in Mahabharata what Duryodhana had tried to do to Draupadi was very shameful. A person who treats a woman so deserved this kind of fate.

6) The Exile

As per the Mythology Stories, in both the epics the Ramayana and the Mahabharata the main characters had to endure a part of their lives in the forest. Rama was sent to exile after his mother Kaikeyi's decision to make her son Bharata the King of Ayodhya. on the other hand in the Mahabharata Shakuni and Duryodhana played a lot of cunning games to keep sending the Pandavas to exile.

7)  Enemies Supported as Friends

 In Mythology Stories in both the epics a few people who were on the side of an Adharma supported the people who were on Dharma side. Vibhishana and Mondadori of Ramayana advised Ravana a lot to surrender to Rama and Vidura and Yuyutsu of Mahabharata supported the Pandavas.
